Apple Appoints New Chairman – Elects Disney’s Iger to Board

Today, Apple appointed Arther D. Levinson to be the new chairman of the company.

Apple also elected Robert A. Iger, the chief executive of the Walt Disney Company, to its board. This is not a massive surprise as Apple has slowly been affiliating itself with the entertainment business. Iger should be able to lead the company into that field confidently.

Apple said Arthur D. Levinson, the chairman of Genentech who has been on the Apple board since 2000, would become its nonexecutive chairman. The appointment of Mr. Levinson, one of the longest-serving Apple board members, could allow for some stability among the senior leaders of Apple as it continues its search for success without Steve Jobs.
